Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is a performing rights organization (PRO) that represents songwriters, composers, and music publishers. Founded in 1939, BMI helps music creators earn public performance royalties when their songs are played on radio, television, streaming platforms, at live concerts, and in businesses such as restaurants, clubs, and retail stores.

BMI licenses the public performance of musical compositions, collects licensing fees, and distributes royalties to its affiliated songwriters, composers, and publishers. Beyond royalty collection, BMI supports music creators through educational workshops, industry events, networking opportunities, and career development resources.

Independent songwriters and artists who write their own music can affiliate with BMI to register their compositions, manage their catalog, and collect eligible performance royalties. BMI also offers BMI Live, which allows performing songwriters to report qualifying live performances for royalty consideration.
