SoundExchange
SoundExchange is a music royalty organization that collects and distributes digital performance royalties for featured recording artists and sound recording copyright owners. These royalties are generated when recorded music is played on qualifying non-interactive digital platforms and services, including SiriusXM, Pandora, iHeartRadio, and internet radio stations.
Unlike performing rights organizations such as ASCAP and BMI, which collect performance royalties for songwriters, composers, and music publishers, SoundExchange focuses on the sound recording itself and the people or companies that own and perform on those recordings. Independent artists who own their master recordings may be eligible to collect as both the featured artist and the sound recording copyright owner.
Registration with SoundExchange is free. Artists and rights owners can register their recordings, search for unclaimed royalties, track their catalog, and manage royalty payments through SoundExchange Direct. The organization also offers resources to help artists understand their digital royalty rights and navigate the business side of music.
